New UTC principals had the opportunity to exchange best practice and network with one another during a training event organised by Baker Dearing at UTC Swindon on Friday 21 March.
Baker Dearing invites all new UTC leaders to take part in its new principal programme following their appointment.

The programme aims to support new principals to better understand the challenges of leading a UTC, as well as to allow them to visit a range of others to see excellent practice, and to help them network with colleagues.
Friday’s event was facilitated by Baker Dearing’s interim Director of Education Alex Hayes and Principal of UTC Leeds Hannah Wilson, with two sessions from Baker Dearing’s Chief Executive Kate Ambrosi.
The leaders were given a tour of UTC Swindon’s excellent facilities by Headteacher Hollie Taylor and Wayne Edwards, who is Executive Director of School Improvement for Swindon’s MAT, Activate Learning Education Trust. Edwards also delivered a session on working collaboratively.

Further interactive sessions on the day focused on governance and strategic planning.
The day helped principals to understand what is involved in running a UTC and should assist them in providing the UTCness that delivers results for students and employers.

Our thanks to UTC Swindon and Activate Learning Education Trust for hosting and Wayne Edwards for delivering a session. Thanks also to Hannah Wilson for helping facilitate the day.
