Influence

Baker Dearing, as the representative body for the UTC programme, provides strong advocacy within government, the media and with other important stakeholders. The charity maintains strong relationships with ministers, civil servants, and members of both houses of Parliament to shape a supportive policy and regulatory environment.

We also support UTCs to build relationships with constituency politicians and secure coverage in local media.

Political influence

Baker Dearing meets regularly with education ministers, Ofsted senior staff, and the education teams from government and Opposition to advocate for the UTC programme. This work is supported by the Technical Education Policy Group, composed of MPs who provide strong support for their local UTCs.

Media relations

Baker Dearing maintains a productive relationship with the trade and national media, regularly providing comments, news items, and opinion pieces on education issues. This has helped build our credibility with stakeholders, including the general public, and established Baker Dearing as a thought leader and agent in technical education delivery.
