Baker Dearing has been supporting a partnership between UTC Derby Pride Park and industry association CEDIA to deepen students’ understanding of smart technologies.
As part of this collaboration, students took part in an independent living technology competition supported by Automated Spaces. Learners were challenged to design an assistive technology system suitable for use within the home.
Health and engineering classes were brought together and given three different client scenarios for which they had to design tailored solutions. This interdisciplinary approach enabled both groups to refine their thinking, share expertise, and co-create innovative outcomes that responded directly to client needs.
This has been a fantastic and inspiring employer-led project that united health and engineering to tackle real-world challenges. It has strengthened cross-disciplinary teamwork and provided students with valuable experience in designing meaningful, person-centred assistive technology solutions.
A huge thank you to UTC Derby Pride Park, CEDIA and Automated Spaces for their support in making this opportunity possible.
