UTC and UTC Sleeve engineering staff have today gained a fascinating insight into manufacturing technology at an insight day at Renishaw in Gloucestershire, as part of our engineering CPD programme supported by the Gene Haas Foundation.
Due to the foundation’s generous support, UTCs in attendance have been offered funding to cover staff and travel costs. We would like to thank the Gene Haas Foundation for their continuing support of the engineering CPD programme.
Through the day, engineering staff have been introduced to a wide range of technologies used by Renishaw to continue to develop engineering systems to become more effective and efficient in manufacturing a wide range of products in many engineering sectors.
The jam-packed insight day has included:
- The development of additive manufacturing using metals including titanium and aluminium.
- A demonstration on computer-aided design and digital twin engineering
- An opportunity to meet UTC alumni who are now apprentices at Renishaw
- A networking lunch with Renishaw staff
- The attendees have also been given bottle openers made through additive manufacturing
These industry insight days are designed specifically for staff working within engineering-specialist UTCs and offer practical, hands-on exposure to current industry practice, technologies, and employer expectations. They provide valuable opportunities for teaching staff to strengthen curriculum relevance, build confidence in delivering technical content, and better understand how engineering is evolving in industry.
Thanks to Renishaw for hosting us and delivering this day and to the Gene Haas Foundation for their continued support. Thanks also to the UTCs which have attended, including: UTC Derby Pride Park, University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN), Berkeley Green UTC, the UTC Sleeve at Abbeywood Community School, UTC Plymouth, Lincoln UTC, South Devon UTC, UTC Warrington, WMG Academy Trust, UTC Swindon, UTC Portsmouth
