A recent monitoring inspection of UTC Cambridge by Ofsted has been very positive. This latest inspection has highlighted the significant improvements made by the UTC since its disappointing inspection in November. In a short space of time the UTC has made a very rapid turnaround.
In their monitoring inspection, the Ofsted inspector found:
- Leadership and management had improved strongly since the previous inspection
- Safeguarding had been transformed and risk assessment was now more effective
- Attendance had improved as had punctuality following the implementation of new monitoring
- The student council had been reinvigorated during the autumn term and student views were now better represented.
The positive result from Ofsted is a reflection of the hard work and commitment from the UTC’s staff and students. Jon Green, Chair of the Board of Governors at UTC Cambridge, said:
It has been an extremely busy few months but it is heartening to see the dedication, hard work and passion which we all have for the UTCC has been reflected in Ofsted’s Inspection. The report highlights the significant turnaround there has been in safeguarding, leadership and attendance at the college and it is great to hear so many positives. We know we cannot be complacent but we all feel the UTC is now well set to become the great education intuition we all know it can be.
In the original report, the college was marked as ‘good’ for its quality of teaching, learning and assessment, its outcomes for pupils and the 16 to 19 study programmes. The UTC is looking forward with expectation of a positive full Ofsted inspection later this year.
Andrew Hutchinson, Executive Principal at the UTC, also added:
To receive such an upbeat monitoring inspection is entirely down to the pupils, parents and staff at the college. They are the ones who have made the new systems and procedures which have been introduced work. We know the UTCC is a good school – we have fantastic teachers, students who are willing to learn and a building which is designed to make the most of everyone’s talents. I am very excited for the future and look forward to welcoming Ofsted back for their next inspection.
