While in Devon the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson paid a visit to students and staff at UTC Plymouth. Williamson was welcomed by the Principal, Polly Lovell and Chair of Governors, Nick England.
Polly said: ”We were thrilled to have the Secretary of State, Gavin Williamson visit us at UTC Plymouth. It was the Minister’s first visit to a UTC and he seemed very impressed with the facilities and technical curriculum that we offer here. Our students were shining examples of our aspirational culture and it was a brilliant opportunity to showcase our amazing college.”
The Education Secretary had a tour of the college facilities and took time to speak with students, teaching staff and several members of the Royal Navy who work alongside the teachers at the UTC.
Gavin Williamson said: “I worked in manufacturing before becoming an MP, and I know how important it is to have the right skills that this college provides.”
“When you talk to the students you get a true sense of their passion and enthusiasm they have for the skills they are learning here. It is truly inspiring, and we need to be doing more of this.”
