New University Technical College approved to boost technical skills in Doncaster

In exciting news for the UTC programme, the DfE has approved the opening of a new UTC in Doncaster in September 2020.
Doncaster University Technical College will specialise in the latest rail engineering techniques, coding and 3-D design, helping to meet the needs of the local economy.

The bid to open Doncaster UTC involved lots of hard work from the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and a range of stakeholders. These included the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University as well as leading businesses from across South Yorkshire, such as Volker Rail and Keepmoat.

A number of other businesses, institutions and politicians in the region have also welcomed the news.
In the words of our chairman Lord Baker, co-founder of the UTC programme:

“Dan Fell, Chief Executive of the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, deserves much recognition for the work he and the bid team have put in to convince the Government that a UTC is a necessary addition to Doncaster’s education landscape. We are pleased that all their efforts have been successful.”
