Sixteen UTCs were represented at a industry insight day for engineering staff at Haas Automation in Norwich on Tuesday 4 February 2026.
The day was intended to build engineering teachers’ and technicians’ understanding of industry practices and innovations that students will need to learn at the UTC and use once they progress to employment.
The day included an engaging opening session that explained Haas Automation UK and its work. There was also an opportunity for the UTC staff to receive hands-on experience of the machines that Haas makes. This includes CNC metal cutting; marking, engraving, and automation; and CNC controls and Industry 4.0.
The 16 attendees even had the opportunity the design and produce a coaster that they could take away as a memento of the day.
We are hugely pleased with how UTCs engaged with the fascinating content and opportunities provided by Haas Automation UK. Thanks to all the UTC representatives who attended, but a special thanks to Andrew Ward and the Haas team for hosting, sponsoring, and delivering incredibly useful continual professional development for UTC engineering staff.
The UTCs that attended on the day were WMG Academy Trust, UTC Derby Pride Park, UTC Sheffield City Centre, UTC Swindon, Greater Peterborough UTC, Crewe Engineering and Design UTC, SGS Berkeley Green UTC, UTC Reading, University Technical College Norfolk, Ron Dearing UTC, Lincoln UTC, UTC Warrington, Silverstone UTC, Aston University Engineering Academy, BMAT STEM Academy, and Brook Sixth Form and Academy.
