Baker Dearing proudly supported the UTC Robot Challenge at the Copper Box Arena in London on 22 April, having organised the event in close collaboration with FIRST UK, Sellafield, RAICo, Experiential Robotics, and UTC Warrington.
Fourteen UTCs took on challenges provided by Sellafield, while two teams from UTC Warrington also took part in the national FIRST UK Championships, which were held in the arena that day. UTCs that attended the challenge were provided with a bursary of provision worth around £3,000, including a reusable robotics kit, which will further help them to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge from September.
The events were an excellent opportunity for students to develop both their technical and employability skills. Robotics is a fast-growing sector and UTCs have adapted provision to help prepare young people to progress to roles within it. The challenge also counted towards the Baker Award for Technical Education, which celebrates students like those at the challenge who develop employability and technical skills.
