Baker Dearing responds to launch of Milburn review into young NEETs

Former Health Secretary Alan Milburn has launched his review into the causes of youth economic inactivity. Milburn, assisted by a panel of health, business, and education experts, will publish an interim report in Spring.

He has said: “We need to create a movement – a coalition of the concerned – to help us understand what’s broken and what must change.”

Commenting on the launch of the review, Baker Dearing CEO Kate Ambrosi said:

“We fully support Alan Milburn’s appointment and his drive to bring parties together to tackle this youth unemployment crisis. And it is a crisis when young people do not have the qualifications, skills, or motivation to access work and training.

“The government has already taken some positive steps towards tackling the issue, but we know more can be done and look forward to working with Milburn and the panel to put forward ambitious but workable ways of getting more young people employed or learning.

“A recent Policy Exchange report found that young people studying at the University Technical Colleges that we support are less likely to become NEET. We are ready to share our experience and expertise in aid of this review.”
